About

Founded in 2008, the Universities Committee for Scottish Literature is a body of academics concerned with the condition, development and promotion of Scottish literary studies in higher education.

UCSL:

  • awards the prestigious Ross Roy Prize for the best PhD thesis in Scottish literature each year;
  • awards the Scottish Literary Studies Book Prize, recognising outstanding works of scholarship in the field of Scottish literary studies;
  • supports postgraduate research culture in Scottish literary studies;
  • fosters collaboration in Scottish literature teaching and research between institutions, among postgraduates, and across disciplinary and international boundaries;
  • aims to speak for Scottish literary study where matters of Higher Education policy are discussed by educational or other public bodies.

Though focused on the Scottish Higher Education context, UCSL is keen to develop collegial links with academics and academic institutions across the globe.
